A unique interior... 52 Princes Gate was built in c1873, with the internal works designed by the Architect George Aitchinson whose brief was to decorate it in
a manner commensurate with the new occupant’s social and artistic aspirations. The results were a brilliant success; boasting in 1876 that
‘there was nothing in London to match it!’
Some of the original features survive today; a detailed wooden dado with a floral pattern in ivory and mother-of-pearl, decorative plaster
ceilings with sunflowers in the border panels, and a finely detailed Renaissance-style chimney piece carved in black marble.
